A Rede de Estudos em Sociologia Econômica do Rio de Janeiro (RESERJ), composta pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia Política (PPGSP/IUPERJ-UCAM), Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia e Antropologia (PPGSA/UFRJ) e Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia (PPGS/UFF), em colaboração com o Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos Comparados sobre as Américas (PPGECSA/UnB)) e apoio do Comitê de Pesquisa Sociologia Econômica (CPSE) da Sociedade Brasileira de Sociologia (SBS) publicizam os resumos dos webinars promovidos em 2020 no âmbito do “Ciclo de Seminários em Economia Política Comparada 2020/2021: Ásia”.

Asia’s political economy post-Covid-19: Still the Asian Century?

John West, Adjunct Professor, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan

John West is the author of the recent book Asian Century … on a Knife-edge (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018).  John has had a long career as an educator, journalist, researcher, and policymaker. He currently teaches at Tokyo’s Sophia University. He is also executive director of the Asian Century Institute. These current positions follow major stints at the Australian Treasury, the Paris-based OECD, and the Tokyo-based Asian Development Bank Institute.  John was also a contributing editor for FDI-Intelligence, a Financial Times magazine. He is an Australian national.

Building Modern Korea Geopolitics, the developmental state and industrial development in South Korea

Dr. Michelle Fei-hu Hsieh, Associate Research Fellow, Academia Sinica, Institute of Sociology, Taipei, Taiwan

Dr. Hsieh received her PhD (in Sociology) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and was a Shorenstein Postdoctoral Fellow at the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University. Her research interests include economic sociology, sociology of development, comparative political economy, and East Asian societies. Her ongoing research explores the variations and consequences of industrial upgrading among the East Asian latecomers. She has done empirical analysis of the different configurations of the state-society linkages for innovation through comparative industry studies on Taiwan and South Korea. Her investigations focus on how technology learning and adaptation take place in a decentralized system of SME network production and the institutional arrangements that can facilitate or hinder coordination and collaboration. Other research interests are the origins of the East Asian developmental state and the connection between technological development and Cold War geopolitics in the latter half of the twentieth century.

Changes by Competition Evolution of the South Korean Developmental State

Professor Hyeong-ki Kwon, Professor of Political Science, Seoul National University

Professor Kwon, PhD University of Chicago, é conhecido pelos seus trabalho em economia política comparada das economias industrias avançadas, tendo publicado dois livros de referência sobre o tema um sobre a Irlanda, Politics of Social Pacts in the era of Globalization: Evolution of the Irish Social Concertation Model [Korean] (Seoul: Humanitas, 2014), ganhador de dois prêmios: “Best book of the year nominated by Korean Political Science Association in 2015, and an Excellent Book of Basic Sciences by the National Academy in 2015”; e sobre a Alemanha,  Fairness and Division of Labor in Market Societies: A Comparison of U.S. and German Automotive Parts Markets (New York: Berghahn Books, 2004).  O Prof. Kwon atualmente pesquisa a resposta da Coréia do Sul à globalização, tendo publicado os seguintes artigos sobre o tema “Varieties of Globalization and National Economy: Korea’s Experience from a Comparative Perspective.” Journal of International Relations and Development (with Kyung Mi Kim) (2020 September) e “The State’s Role in Globalization: Korea’s Experience from a Comparative Perspective.” Politics & Society, Vol. 45, No. 4 (December 2017), 505-531 (with Kyung Mi Kim).

O Comitê de Pesquisa de Sociologia Econômica (CPSE) da Sociedade Brasileira de Sociologia (SBS) reúne uma comunidade vibrante de pesquisadoras/es atuando no campo da investigação sociológica sobre a vida econômica desde a 13ª edição do Congresso Brasileiro de Sociologia (CBS), realizada em 2009. Em sua sétima edição consecutiva, as atividades do CPSE privilegiam o fortalecimento e a pluralidade de sua constituição, abrigando trabalhos a respeito de organizações e instituições socioeconômicas variadas, e incorporando temáticas relacionadas às lógicas específicas dos mercados e processos de precificação, aos seus mecanismos de regulação político-institucional, e aos mapas cognitivos e morais que pressupõem as transações econômicas.
